Naomi Osaka is sure to draw the most attention in Tokyo, but the four-time major champion is likely out of the question at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth. Osaka will be able to get over it, for them it's more about feeling the feeling of winning a tournament again. The last one was in early 2021 at the Australian Open, in the current season she was already in the final in Miami, in which she had no chance against Iga Swiatek.

For the numbers one and four in Tokyo, however, it is very much about moving forward in the race. Because the first two places at Swiatek and Ins Jabeur have long since been taken. Simona Halep, who is currently in eighth place, ended her season prematurely due to an operation on her nose. This moves Paula Badosa, number one in Tokyo, and Veronika Kudermetova, number four in the Japanese capital, up a notch. But it's not quite enough yet. Kudermetova starts the week in Tokyo in ninth place in the annual standings, Badosa in tenth place.

Caroline Garcia would certainly take a few more points with her. But if you take the form of the last few weeks as a basis, then Garcia (currently fifth in the race) starts in Tokyo as the favorite.

Incidentally, the further prospects of big points are no longer so tingling in autumn: There are only two 500 (in Ostrava and Sand Diego) and a 1000 event (in Guadalajara) left.

Here is the current status of the Race to Fort Worth
