WTA Toronto: The Williams sisters united at the start
At the WTA 1000 event in Toronto not only Serena but also sister Venus Williams will start in the individual competition. The organizers announced this on Wednesday.

The Williams sisters are back: After starting in Wimbledon - Serena in singles, Venus in mixed doubles - the two Americans are now planning to compete at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto. The organizers announced this on social media on Wednesday. Accordingly, Venus Williams also received a wildcard for the major event, which will start on August 8th.
This is the first time in almost exactly a year that both Williams sisters have started in the same WTA event in the main draw. This was the last time at Wimbledon. For Venus Williams it is already the 11th appearance in Canada. "I am very happy to play at the National Bank Open again," Williams is quoted as saying in a broadcast. "I love the city and the tournament and I'm looking forward to coming back to Toronto," said the former world number one.
Williams sisters also at the US Open?
This makes it more and more likely that the Williams sisters will start at the US Open. In addition to competing in Toronto, Serena Williams also plans to serve in Cincinnati at the Western & Southern Open in mid-August. Immediately afterwards, the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, is on the program from August 29th.
