The 17-year-old Czech celebrated her first WTA title in Chennai at the weekend - and was greatly rewarded for it: she made up 56 places in the new world rankings and is now number 74. She is in the top 100 world for the first time. And, hopefully injury excluded: she will probably stay there for some time and strive for higher goals.
Incidentally, her sister Brenda Fruhvirtova is not that far behind, at number 195, she is only 15 years old.
In any case, the Czechs are excellently positioned for the future: nine players are in the top 100, led by Petra Kvitova in 18th place.
With Linda Noskova (17 years old, 105th place) and Sara Bejlek (16 years old, 196th place), there are promising youngsters in sight alongside the Fruhvirtova Sisters. And with Nikola Bartunkova (16 years old, 318th place) and Dominika Salkova (18 years old, 346th place) also some in the wider circle.
Iga Swiatek confidently tops the world rankings
But back to the top 100.
Of course, Iga Swiatek continues to lead the world rankings, ahead of Ons Jabeur and Anett Kontaveit.
Portoroz winner Katerina Sinakova (Czech Republic again!) climbs back into the top 50 with 49th place.
In the DACH area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Switzerland is among the top 50 with Belinda Bencic (14th place) and Jil Teichmann (31st place). This is followed by Angelique Kerber (71st), Jule Niemeier (72nd) and Tatjana Maria (80th) for Germany, Viktoria Golubic (90th place) again for Switzerland. And for Austria, Julia Grabher (98th place) goes into her second week among the top 100 tennis players in the world.
