Alexander Zverev was a guest in the current sport studio last Saturday evening. When the presenter Dunja Hayali announces him and the studio doors open, the 24-year-old embodies something with his safe walk into the studio that he will take up in the course of the interview. But first, a few months after winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Hayali Zverev asks whether he has already been able to process this historic success.

Zverev emphasizes that there is nothing bigger in sport than the Olympic Games. To see the gold medal at home in the living room is a feeling that cannot be described. But the world number three did not cling to memories for long when he gave his first answer - in the same sentence he said that the gold medal had shown him further goals and that he was already looking forward to the coming season. Hayali then picks out six terms that could contribute to the outstanding year 2021.

Zverev - "The most important thing in 2021 was inner peace"

When Hayali asks which of the six terms (serve, volley, transition, fitness, nerves and serenity) was the most decisive for success, Zverev names another: inner calm. Zverev says he has gotten older and learned to deal better with difficult phases. He continues with a grin that only two or three rackets have been broken this season. He also emphasizes that he is less likely to allow himself to be influenced and that he makes decisions himself. As a viewer, you have the feeling that Zverev's words coincide with his controlled manner on the pitch - and with the walk into the studio. Most recently at the ATP finals it was again evident that Zverev was calm on the pitch and never got hectic.

A little later, Dunja Hayali asks about the goals for 2022. Zverev is also tidy here. He has not yet won a Grand Slam tournament, has not yet been number 1 in the world and hopes that he can perhaps change something at the Australian Open in January - even if he respectfully says of Novak Djokovic: “There is no player who reads the game better than he does. "

By the way: In the second part of the program, when Alexander Zverev's family situation is highlighted, brother and manager Mischa Zverev also takes a seat in the studio.
